You may ask, precisely what is Opien? Well, like any great enigma that still dares to exist in the modern memory, it is difficult to precisely define. In etymological terms, one could easily assume that the name is a certain confluence of words like open and opine; relatively free of obstructions to sight, movement, or internal arrangement, and to hold or express an opinion, respectively. In most certain artistic terms, the structural basis of OPIEN is formed by one Niko Stoessl and Philip Brunner of Vienna, Austria.

The cooperation between the producer/singer/multi-instrumentalist Stoessl and the author/concept artist Brunner began in 1999, and, intensified over the years, ultimately led to the embodiment of themuch anticipated joint project, OPIEN. In beautifully brutal form, it brings the enigmatic work of both artists together, coalescing music, words, images, and many other forbidden sensory delights. Accordingly, it's musical influences are widely diversified and nurtured by the last quarter century of increasingly innovative music history. From the ashes of the great post-industrial age, OPIEN is reminiscent of the early 80's tide that brought in Killing Joke, intermixed with the clean, meat cleaver precision of The Deftones, and other emotive exponents such as Trent Reznor and Iamx's Chris Corner.
